Nation mourns passing away of shooting ace Jaspal Rana

Dehradun/New Delhi, 12 Jun: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavia have condoled the sudden passing away of shooting legend Jaspal Rana. President Droupadi Murmu, who is in Dehradun today, condoled the demise of Jaspal Rana and said his dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence will continue to inspire generations of sportspersons. In a post on X, Murmu said that the news of the passing of Jaspal Rana is extremely sad. She noted that Rana was a renowned shooter whose exceptional performances brought glory to the nation. Murmu also mentioned that as a winner of several medals at global shooting competitions, he established himself as an icon of Indian sports. She further said that as an athlete and mentor, he made a lasting contribution by nurturing young talent, and his dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence will continue to inspire generations of sportspersons. The President extended her heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the sports community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined the sporting world in mourning the untimely demise of renowned Indian shooter and Coach Jaspal Rana, describing his passing as a profound loss to the nation. On his X post, Modi stated that he is deeply saddened by the passing of Jaspal Rana and that his death is a profound loss to the world of Indian sports. The PM also stated that Rana had brought immense glory to the nation through his extraordinary achievements in shooting. Equally remarkable was his contribution as a mentor, shaping and guiding young athletes with great dedication. His unwavering commitment to excellence, discipline and service to the sporting world earned him immense admiration. Modi added that his thoughts were with Rana’s family, friends and the entire sporting fraternity in this hour of grief, and offered Om Shanti.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya too remembered Rana’s contributions to Indian shooting. He said that he was deeply pained by the passing of Indian shooting legend Jaspal Rana. Mandaviya stated that his incredible contributions to the nation, as a champion athlete and an exceptional mentor, leave behind an inspiring legacy. He offered his heartfelt condolences to Rana’s family, friends and the sporting fraternity, and added Om Shanti.

Olympic champion shooter Abhinav Bindra also condoled passing away of Rana and he stated that he is heartbroken by Rana’s passing, recalling their association as teammates and his contribution to Indian shooting. Bindra mentioned that Jaspal was his teammate and, in many ways, part of a generation that helped shape Indian shooting. Bindra described him as intense and gifted, and said that he carried the pride of the country every time he stepped onto the range.
