Dehradun, 16 Jan: Professor Dr Surekha Dangwal, who is currently HOD English Department with HNB Garhwal University has been appointed as new Vice Chancellor of Doon University. She has been chosen by Governor Baby Rani Maurya from the panel of names forwarded to her by the State Higher Education Department. She is known to be close to the BJP leadership in the state and in the past had also chaired the state PSU Hiltron Ltd. She is known to be a very good orator and has good administrative experience behind her.
On the other hand, the appointment of Dr Annapurna as VC of HNB Garhwal Central University has come under some cloud as it has been challenged in Uttarakhand High Court by activist Ravindra Jugran. Jugran has challenged her appointment on the ground that Annapurna had not applied for the coveted post and therefore she was not eligible as per the Varsity regulations which specifically stated that the candidate would be selected from among the applicants only!
