Prof Surekha Dangwal reappointed Vice Chancellor of Doon Varsity for 3 years

Dehradun, 10 Jun: Professor Dr Surekha Dangwal has been reappointed as Vice Chancellor of Doon University for a period of 3 years from the date she assumes charge. It may be recalled that Prof Dangwal, originally a Professor of English Literature and Head of English Department in HNB Garhwal Central University, is currently serving as Vice Chancellor of the Doon University. Her term had ended earlier this year, but she had been granted an extension as Vice Chancellor for a period of 6 months or till the appointment of new VC on an interim basis.

However, given her academic and administrative achievements in taking the University forward academically, it was being speculated that she may be granted another term as Vice Chancellor. It may be recalled that for re-appointment as Vice Chancellor, the outgoing Vice Chancellor has to undergo a similar selection process as is done for the first term as VC.  Orders regarding her re-appointment as VC of Doon University were issued today by Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), is the ex-officio Chancellor of all the state government universities in the state. The appointment was made on the recommendations of the Selection Committee.

It may be recalled that Prof Surekha has in the past, also served as Head of the Department of English, Modern European & Other Foreign Languages, HNB Garhwal Central University in Srinagar Garhwal. She has 34 years of teaching and research experience till date. She has been a recipient of the prestigious DAAD Fellowship from Germany and has also been a visiting faculty at Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, USA under a Faculty Exchange Programme in 2008-09. Her research interests focus on South Asian Women Studies, Diaspora Literature and Literary Theory. She has published several research papers including popular articles and translated into English the works of some local poets and writers. Her acclaimed books include Hinduism in T.S. Eliot’s Writings, The Art of Effective Communication and Learning English Language through Literature.

She has also been serving as a member and convener of different committees of various Universities and Institutions across India. In the past, she had also been Chairperson of UP Hill Electronic Corporation (HILTRON), Govt of Uttar Pradesh (Undivided UP) Undertaking from September, 1997, to February, 2001.
