Dehradun, 31 Mar: A large number of representatives from various organisations of the town assembled on Saturday at the Parade Ground under the aegis of National Association for Parents and Students Rights (NAPSR) to pay homage and express their protests at the brutal murder of a 7th class student of Children Home Academy, Ranipokhri. Harkishan Singh, the Secretary of NAPSR, explained the purpose of the meeting and how this brutal murder of a schoolboy had taken place. Brig KG Behl (Retd), President of AICC & Sayunkta Nagrik Sangthan, said that it could not just be the theft of a packet of biscuits that led to this ghastly murder, but possibly something more sinister. It could not have happened without the involvement of the authorities concerned. Steps had been taken to cover up the case, including a false medical report. Apart from the strict action necessary, attention needed to be paid by the parents and teachers to the psychology of the students. The antecedents of the organisation running the school also needed to be closely examined.
Views were expressed on various aspects of the case by members of various organisations present, such as the Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan, Doon Residents’ Welfare Front, NIFA, Jagatbandhu Sewa Trust, Nirbahaya Social and Welfare Organisation, Amulya Jeewan Vikas Charitable Society, Sikh Welfare Association, Uttarakhand Andolankari Manch, etc. Those who spoke included Naveen Lingwal, Dr Mahesh Bhandari, SP Chauhan, Vishal Chauhan, Dharmendra Thakur, Kavita Khan, JS Jassal, Vishwambhar Nath Bajaj, Sushil Tyagi, Pradeep Kukreti, Dr Amarjeet Singh Kareer, Sumit Kumar, Jagmohan Mendiratta, Mohan Singh Rawat, Meena Nagpal, JS Pun, Yashbeer Arya, Manoj Dhyani, Mahabir Singh Rawat and others. Candles were lit by all and two minutes silence was observed to pay tribute to the student.
