Mussoorie, 3 Feb: Light rain accompanied by a hailstorm today has further intensified the cold in Mussoorie, the Queen of the Hills, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature and a sharp chill across the town. The sudden change in weather has affected daily life and revived hopes of fresh snowfall among local residents, traders and tourists visiting the hill station. Tourists were today seen visibly excited at the prospect, with many expressing hope that if such cold conditions persist, they may soon witness snowfall, adding a memorable experience to their visit.
With the mercury dipping further, people have begun relying heavily on warm clothing and bonfires to cope with the cold. Taking note of the prevailing conditions, the Mussoorie Municipal Council has arranged bonfires at prominent locations, including the main square, to provide relief to the locals and the visitors. Local traders believe that any snowfall will lead to a fresh surge in tourist arrivals, which would directly benefit the tourism-related economy. Hotels, restaurants and shopkeepers have already begun anticipating a promising spell for business.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the weather situation in the coming hours. According to officials, there is a possibility of a further fall in temperature, and snowfall in the higher reaches of the region cannot be ruled out if the prevailing conditions continue.
