Dehradun, 8 May: Amid rising mercury in most parts of the state, rains and thunderstorms are likely to bring relief to the people of Uttarakhand over the next four days beginning tonight. In case of good rains, one can expect some abatement in forest fires. At present, forest fires are being reported across the state with smog also being reported in the hills, making it difficult to breathe.
The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of heavy rain in some districts of the state.
According to the Department, there is a possibility of rain in many areas of the state from tonight till 12 May.
According to the information, there is a strong possibility of rain in many areas tonight. There may be rain with lightning and thunder in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora and Champawat over the next few days.
If the weather department’s predictions prove to be true, then the raging forest fires can be more easily controlled. The State Weather Centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding possibility of strong winds of velocity up to 40 km per hour and storms in all the districts of Uttarakhand during this period.
The possibility of strong storms in all the districts of Uttarakhand has been predicted, however, in case this is not followed by rains, the strong winds could aid in rapid spread of forest fires.
