Dehradun, 8 Jul: The second consecutive IPSC Squash Tournament 2019 shall commence with the Opening Ceremony at RIMC on 9 July. The Chief Guest on the occasion will be Col Vivek Sharma, Commandant, RIMC.
A total of 15 schools will participate in the Individual as well as Team events from 9 to13 July. All the events have been meticulously planned by the Administration, which has decided to organise this IPSC Squash Tournament in four categories, namely, U-12, U-14, U-17 and U-19.
This is the second consecutive year of IPSC Squash at RIMC. IPSC (Indian Public Schools’ Conference), formed in 1939, is known for its glorious traditions which started with a few residential schools and now has a strength of 79 schools including Sainik Schools and Military Schools. This shall be the second consecutive time when RIMC will host the IPSC Squash Tournament. Squash has always been a tradition, with the first Squash Courts in the State being inaugurated by Col Haughton. RIMC has given the Nation some legendary Squash Players, namely Brig Raj Manchanda, Ritwik Bhattacharya and many more.
The Campus shall be abuzz for five days throughout the Tournament, while housing 147 students of prestigious Schools from all over India. RIMC will accommodate 13 out-station Teams on the Campus, which are sure to give tough competition to each other. Rajkumar College, The Daly College, Mayo College, Modern School, DPS RK Puram, YPS Patiala, Lawrence School, Emerald Heights, LK Singhania School, Welham Boys, YPS Mohali, Sarla Birla Academy, Bengaluru, Mothers International, Assam Valley School and, of course, the hosts will be in the run to acquire the coveted Championship Trophy. RIMC boasts of three international level Squash Courts where the Matches will be played with grit and determination.
A total of 278 matches would be played, both, in individual category as well as team event.
The closing ceremony of the competition would be organised on 13 July.
