Roorkee, 4 Jan: A drain adjacent to the Roorkee Roadways Station has been blocked for an extended period, causing contamination issues for the drinking water system and posing environmental hazards to the restroom facilities there. Furthermore, mismanagement within the premises of the bus station is visibly apparent.

Situated on the right side just behind the station’s toilets, the drain has been obstructed by discarded polythene and bottles, primarily from cold drinks. Adding to the station’s challenges, a perpetually running tap near the exit gate continuously spills water onto the ground, mixing with various waste items like tetra packs, cigarette remnants, and bidis.

Despite available paid and unpaid facilities for passengers, they are unfortunately not adequately maintained. The unpleasant odour around the exit gate, where buses frequently stop, forces passengers to cover their faces, creating an uncomfortable situation. Despite the unhygienic conditions, passengers have no choice but to use these inadequate facilities.

In response to inquiries about this mismanagement, Vishal Chandra, in-charge of Roorkee Roadways, mentioned that they have already requested the Roorkee Municipal Corporation (MCR) to clean the drain, but no action has been taken yet. However, he clarified that no formal written complaints have been submitted from their side but verbal requests have been made during all routine meetings with MCR officials.
