Dehradun, 18 Dec: The Rudraprayag police have registered an FIR against an individual, a contractor, and a company, following a video going viral, showing a person roaming in the Bhairav temple premises wearing shoes and tampering with the idols with a stick. The video, captured by CCTV cameras, went viral on various social media platforms yesterday.
An immediate preliminary investigation conducted by the district police revealed that the video is slightly old. It was found that the person seen in the video is a labourer of Gawar Company, which is engaged in Kedarnath reconstruction works. The FIR (No. 73/2024) has been registered at Kotwali Sonprayag under Section 298 and Section 331 of the Indian Penal Code, related to hurting religious sentiments and housebreaking.
The investigation proceedings have been initiated against Sajjan Kumar, the contractor concerned, and the employee of the company. A special team has been formed at the district police level to arrest the accused soon. The swift action by the police underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and respecting religious sentiments.
