Dehradun, 17 Oct: The Rules Making and Implementation Committee constituted for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand has finalised the draft of the rules and regulations for implementation. The report has already been printed and is now scheduled to be handed over to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tomorrow. It may be recalled that CM Dhami had indicated in the past that the UCC is likely to be implemented in the state with effect from 9 November, the State Formation Day.
It may be recalled that the last meeting of the Rules Making and Implementation Committee constituted to prepare the rules of the Uniform Civil Code was held on 7 October. During this meeting, it was decided to send the rules for printing after addition of some points. It is now confirmed that the rules of the Uniform Civil Code have now been printed and the copies are now in possession of the Rules committee.
The members of the committee include former Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand, Shatrughna Singh, Additional Secretary, Justice Department, Sudhir Singh, Additional Secretary, Personnel Department (ex-officio member), Additional Secretary, Panchayati Raj, (ex-officio member), Additional Secretary, Urban Development Department, (ex-officio member), Additional Secretary, Finance Department (ex-officio member), ADG Amit Sinha, Vice Chancellor of Doon University Prof Dr Surekha Dangwal, and Manu Gaur.
The committee will meet Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tomorrow and hand over the rules to him.
Sources added that the UCC rules are likely to be placed before the Cabinet in its upcoming meeting on 23 October for approval so that they can be implemented with effect from 9 November on the occasion of State Formation Day.
