Mussoorie, 19 May: Famous author Padma Bhushan awardee Ruskin Bond celebrated his 88th birthday, here, today. His fans have been wishing him on his birthday through social media from Wednesday, itself. Ruskin Bond was born on 19 May, 1934, in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. He is the son of Aubrey Bond and Edith Clarke. His father died in his childhood, after that he was brought up in Shimla, Jamnagar, Mussoorie, Dehradun and London. For the last 50 years, he has lived in Mussoorie with his family.
Ruskin Bond celebrated his 88th birthday with simplicity by dedicating his book, ‘Listen to Your Heart, The London Adventure’, to his fans. Rakesh Bond, son of Ruskin Bond, said that, following the guidelines of Covid, Ruskin Bond celebrated his birthday with family at home. He said that, for the last two years, Ruskin Bond has been writing books continuously while staying at home. His passion for writing continues as before. And Ruskin Bond is totally healthy.
Ruskin Bond has thanked his fans on the occasion of his 88th birthday.
In 1999, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions in the field of literature. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra’.
Ruskin Bond cut the birthday cake with family at his home situated in Landour Cantt. Ruskin Bond’s daughter-in-law Bina says that, even today, Ruskin Bond does all his work at home.
Sunil Arora, owner of Cambridge Book Store, said that every year Ruskin used to organise programmes at his book store on the occasion of his birthday, but for the last two years due to Corona, the programme could not be organised. This year, too, this could not be done, which disappointed the fans. He said that he went to Ruskin Bond’s house a day earlier and wished him a long life while wishing him a happy 88th birthday.
Ruskin’s first book ‘Room on the Roof’ was written at the age of 17. Many Bollywood movies have been made based on Ruskin Bond’s novels.
