SBS University hosts FDP on Ethical Excellence in Research & Academic Integrity

Dehradun, 2 Jan: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBSU) successfully organised a week-long Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Ethical Excellence in Research and Academic Integrity” from 26 to 31 December 2024. The program aimed to enhance awareness and implementation of ethical practices in research and academia, focusing on critical topics such as research ethics, plagiarism prevention, responsible authorship, and academic integrity.

The FDP witnessed participation of over 140 researchers, scholars, and experts who deliberated on principles and guidelines essential for fostering ethical behaviour in academic and scholarly pursuits. In his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Kumar emphasised the significance of values like honesty, integrity, respect for participants, confidentiality, and accountability in promoting trust and credibility in academia. He further stated, “Academic integrity is essential to maintaining the credibility of our institutions and the value of the degrees we award.”

The program featured an impressive lineup of speakers who offered a holistic exploration of the theme. Prof (Dr) Ajay Semalty and Prof (Dr) Mona Semalty from HNB Garhwal University provided insights on academic integrity, publication ethics, and strategies to detect and prevent plagiarism. Prof (Dr) Piyush Pandey from Assam University emphasised the importance of adhering to best practices during and after research. Prof (Dr) Lokesh Gambhir of SGRR University elaborated on crafting effective research proposals for securing extramural funding.

Prof (Dr) Debasish Ghosh, Principal Scientist at CSIR-IIP, Dehradun, spoke on the pivotal role of research planning, while Prof (Dr) Kumud Malhotra of SBSU highlighted the role of ethical committees in ensuring compliance with research ethics.

The event was meticulously structured under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Atul Kaushik (Convenor) and Dr Nidhi S Belwal (Associate Dean and Co-Convenor), ensuring its smooth execution. Distinguished guests, including SP Singh (Chairman, Gaurav Bharti Shiksha Sansthan), Dr Deepak Sahni (Registrar), Prof Maneesh Arora (Dean, Student Welfare), Urmi Chaurasia (Controller of Examinations), Prof Veerma Ram (Director, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology), and other faculty members were present.

The FDP showcased SBSU’s unwavering commitment to promoting ethical excellence in research and fostering a culture of academic integrity. This initiative reaffirmed the university’s dedication to empowering educators and researchers to contribute responsibly and ethically to the global academic community.
