Dehradun, 9 Jan: With the aim of reducing the burden of bags for school children in the state, the government has started a new initiative and decided to implement Bag Free Days in all the schools. Bagless Days will be observed in schools for a total of ten days in the year. Under this scheme, students will go to school without bags where they will be able to participate in various activities as per their interest. This decision of the government has been described by parents’ associations as well as various teachers’ organisations as an important step for the all-round development of students.
This is being done in accordance with the National Education Policy-2020. For this, the last Saturday of every month has been fixed. The scheme will be implemented from class 6 to class 12 in upper primary and secondary schools. It is already being run as ‘Talent Day’ in the government primary schools. Under this, activities involving language, mathematics, science, sports, art and craft, and exercise, social and cultural interest are conducted.
The main objective is to develop the inherent talents of students through various activities, to develop skills related to local businesses and handicrafts, as well as to develop a sense of respect for labour.
Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat has approved the departmental proposal. As soon as the government order is issued, the implementation of the scheme will begin under the supervision of the Chief Education Officer of each district.
