DEHRADUN, 4 Jul: Senior journalist Khushhal Giri Goswami passed away at Jolly Grant Hospital in Dehradun on Saturday after a prolonged illness. He had been battling cancer for a long time. His last rites will be performed tomorrow in Haridwar. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Khushhal Goswami began his career in Dehradun in 2008 when he joined the newly launched Hindustan newspaper after moving to Uttaakhand from Faridabad. He had been associated with Hindustan for 18 years and was known for his fearless reporting on issues that often compelled the government to take action. Several of his reports had forced the government and the administration to act on corruption and deficiencies.
News of his demise has sent a wave of gloom through the journalism fraternity in Uttarakhand. Colleagues and contemporaries remembered him for his straightforward style, impartial reporting and gentle demeanour. Throughout his career, Goswami had given prominence to social concerns, public interest issues and local news, earning respect for his cooperative nature and professional commitment. His passing is being seen as a major loss to the media world, which has lost an experienced and sensitive journalist.
Soon after the news broke, journalists from various media organisations, social groups, public representatives and well-wishers expressed deep sorrow. Many colleagues paid tribute on social media, recalling his simplicity, humility and dedication to journalism, and shared memories of working alongside him. Journalist associations also described his death as an irreparable loss to the profession.
