Dehradun, 20 Aug: BJP Mahanagar President Siddhartha Agarwal today strongly criticised the conduct of Congress MLAs during the monsoon session of the Uttarakhand Assembly held in the summer capital, Gairsain. In a statement issued today, Agarwal asserted that the Assembly is meant to be a forum for serious deliberation on matters of public concern, yet the Congress legislators, driven by personal motives, chose to disrupt proceedings rather than fulfil their constitutional responsibilities.
He alleged that the opposition members violated the decorum of the House by using inappropriate language, engaging in vandalism, and disregarding repeated appeals from the Assembly Speaker to maintain order. According to Agarwal, such actions not only damaged public property but also undermined the dignity of democratic institutions, reflecting the Congress party’s growing frustration and desperation.
The BJP leader further condemned the act of Leader of the Opposition, Yashpal Arya in spending the night inside the Assembly premises with a quilt and mattress, describing it as an undemocratic gesture and a betrayal of public trust. Agarwal maintained that this behaviour amounted to an insult to the people of Uttarakhand, who expect their elected representatives to uphold the sanctity of the legislature.
The BJP, he said, unequivocally denounces these incidents and hopes that going forward, the opposition will adopt a more responsible and constructive approach, focusing on genuine issues of public welfare rather than resorting to theatrics and disruption.
