Dehradun, 26 Nov: Mahatma Khushi Ram Public Library in Doon now wears a new look in tune with the rich cultural heritage and literary glory of Garhwal and Uttarakhand. Soon, there are also plans to spruce up the multi-purpose Community Hall as well as create a digital studio to help aspiring students and research scholars communicate online with subject matter specialists and resource persons. Eminent authors, writers and poets are also being invited to associate with this mission.
The aim is to ultimately convert the heritage library into a Human Library as reading habits are fast vanishing amongst readers and students preparing for competitive examinations are into online knowledge. The Board of Trustees of this public library with meagre resources are approaching patrons, donors and philanthropists to come forward to help future generations of children use these facilities for their betterment in life.
A proposal for upgradation of facilities has also been sent under Corporate Social Responsibility to big corporations like the ONGC. Government help through the local MLA out of his Nidhi funds is also being pursued for solar panelling and Rain Water Harvesting for upkeep and greening in a sustainable manner.
Walk in customers are being encouraged to use the facilities at a nominal charge for upkeep of the present heritage value which is being preserved. Both Government and private corporate entities and individuals can come forward to support this noble cause. A personal visit to the Library is welcome. People may contact the President or any of the Board Members or full time 24×7 caretaker of the Library, Pitamber Joshi for any details.
