Haridwar, 18 Dec: A new chapter was added to Uttarakhand’s sports infrastructure when Sports Minister Rekha Arya inaugurated a new basketball court at Roshanabad, here, today. During the event, the Sports Minister also distributed sports kits to players participating in three training camps.
First, Sports Minister Rekha Arya performed a puja ceremony at the Roshanabad Sports Stadium before inaugurating the newly constructed basketball court. She stated that this basketball court would be another milestone in the state’s sports journey. The Minister added that, like other sports, Haridwar would soon make a name as a nursery for basketball players. She mentioned that Haridwar will host three events—hockey, wrestling, and kabaddi—at the 38th National Games, starting on 28 January, which is a matter of pride for the holy city.
Uttarakhand Basketball Association President Vikas Tiwari praised the efforts of the Sports Minister, highlighting that, thanks to her endeavours, the Indian Olympic Association had included two traditional sports, Yoga and Mallakhamb, in the medal category. He also mentioned that, with such relentless efforts from the Sports Minister, it is possible that four more sports might be added to the core games list. After the inauguration of the basketball court, Minister Rekha Arya inspected the ongoing construction of a new 400-metre track at Roshanabad Sports Stadium and sought its swift completion.
The event was also attended by BJP District President Sandeep Goyal, District Sports Officer Shabali Gurung, social worker Vishal Garg, and other officials.
