Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra clinch Gold in Tennis Team Events

Dehradun, 8 Feb: The finals of the Lawn Tennis Team Event at the 38th National Games were played today. In the men’s team event, Tamil Nadu defeated Karnataka, 2-0, to claim the title, while in the women’s team event, Maharashtra emerged victorious over Gujarat with a 2-0 win to secure the championship.

In the men’s team event final, Tamil Nadu clinched the title by defeating Karnataka, 2-0. The first singles match saw a tough battle between Rishi Reddy and Abhinav S Sanjeev. Rishi won the first set 6-3, but Abhinav made a strong comeback, winning the next two sets, 7-6(6), 6-4, giving Tamil Nadu the lead. In the second singles match, Manish Suresh Kumar defeated Prajwal Dev, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, sealing the championship victory for Tamil Nadu.

In the women’s team event final, Maharashtra secured the championship by defeating Gujarat 2-0. The first singles match featured a face-off between Akanksha Nitture and Jheel Desai. Akanksha won the first set 6-3, Jheel took the second set 6-3, but in the deciding set, Akanksha triumphed 6-3, giving Maharashtra the lead. In the second singles match, Vaishnavi Adkar defeated Vaidehi.

The men’s quarterfinals at the 38th National Games saw a mix of dominant performances and hard-fought battles. Karnataka’s Prajwal Dev and Nikki K Poonacha cruised past Maharashtra’s Anup Mahadev Bangargi and Sandesh D Kurale with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Delhi’s Shivank Bhatnagar and Sarthak Suden edged out Uttarakhand’s Drona Walia and Arnav Yadav, 7-5, 6-4. Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Sanjeeb S and Manish Sureshkumar secured a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory over Gujarat’s Dev V Javia and Madhwin Kamath. In the final match, Services’ Ishaque Iqbal and Faisal Qamar dominated Haryana’s Udit Kamboj and Jagmeet Singh, 6-0, 5-1.

The women’s matches brought thrilling contests and straight-set victories. Gujarat’s V Chaudhari and Zeel Desai overcame Tamil Nadu’s Mirudhula Palanivel and Janani Ramesh 6-2, 6-3. Haryana’s Anjali Rathi and Aditi Tyagi battled past Telangana’s Paavani Pathak and Chevika Reddy Sama, 6-1, 7-6(5). Karnataka’s Sreenidhi Balaji and Harshini N won a nail-biter against Uttarakhand’s Diya Chaudhary and Jaya Kapoor, 6-2, 2-6, 11-9. Maharashtra’s Pooja Inagle and Akanksha Nitture defeated Delhi’s Shefali Arora and Kashish Bhatia, 6-2, 6-3, to seal their semifinal spot.

With the conclusion of the Lawn Tennis Team Event, the men’s and women’s doubles matches have now begun, promising intense competition among the players.
