Dehradun, 8 Apr: The School Education Department has taken strict action against Harpal Singh, an Assistant Teacher posted at Government Primary School, Dirnad, in Chakrata block, by placing him under immediate suspension.
Following a viral video on social media and complaints from local villagers, a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Deputy Education Officer, Chakrata, found the teacher absent from school without approved leave. He was also found guilty of marking attendance in the register in advance. Based on these findings, the District Education Officer (Basic) suspended him with immediate effect and attached him with the Block Education Officer (BEO) office in Chakrata.
The department has observed that certain employees are disregarding discipline and tarnishing its image. The government has made it clear that such misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Taking cognisance of the viral video, State Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter. The investigation revealed that Harpal Singh was absent without prior permission on April 6 and 7, 2026. The complaints from villagers and the contents of the viral video were found to be valid.
It was also discovered during the inquiry that the teacher had pre-signed the attendance register and remained absent from duty. A clarification was sought from him regarding these allegations; however, his response was found unsatisfactory.
Based on the recommendation of the Deputy Education Officer, the District Education Officer (Primary Education) ordered his immediate suspension. During the suspension period, he will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per rules.
Additionally, the DEO (Basic) has appointed the Block Education Officer, Chakrata, as the inquiry officer and directed a detailed investigation into the matter. Instructions have been given to hear all concerned parties and submit a report within 30 days.
Statement:
“Indiscipline in the education department will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Strict action will be taken against any employee who neglects their duties or tarnishes the image of the department. All district Chief Education Officers have been instructed to ensure regular inspections of schools so that such incidents do not recur and transparency and accountability are maintained in the education system,” claimed
