Rishikesh, 28 Oct: THDC India Limited has reached a significant milestone in its journey towards enhancing India’s power generation capabilities. RK Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL, has announced that Unit#1 of the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (KSTPP) successfully synchronised with the National Grid, today. The coal firing was also achieved within a few hours of oil synchronisation.

He praised the dedicated efforts of the KSTPP team, emphasising that this achievement is a crucial step in expanding THDCIL’s footprint in the Thermal Power domain, thereby contributing to India’s energy self-reliance.

“Synchronising Unit#1 is not just a technical accomplishment; it symbolises our commitment to bolstering India’s power generation capacity,” said Vishnoi.

Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), highlighted the project’s importance, and mentioned that with this achievement Khurja Super Thermal Power Project will start playing a vital role in providing base load power, thus ensuring a continuous and reliable electricity supply especially during peak demand periods and when renewable energy resources are variable.

THDCIL’s strategic entry into the thermal power sector, announced a few years ago, complements its existing renewable energy assets. This balanced and sustainable energy portfolio is designed to meet the growing energy demands of the nation while ensuring energy security. The company is committed to incorporating advanced technologies to mitigate environmental impacts and explore cleaner fuel options, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The synchronization of Unit#1 at KSTPP significantly enhances THDCIL’s total energy generation capacity and reaffirms the company’s dedication to strengthening its energy portfolio.

On this significant occasion, Kumar Sharad, ED (Project), along with senior officials including RM Dubey, GM (Electrical), and BK Sahoo, GM (O&M), were present to celebrate this milestone. The event was also attended by the NTPC Consultancy team, led by MK Asthana, ED (NTPC Consultancy), as well as representatives from various agencies including BHEL, LMB, STEAG, and GE.
