Dehradun, 17 Aug: The Doon School Model United Nations Conference kicked off here, today, with over 400 delegates in attendance and over 200 members of the student body involved. It sets a new precedent for forthcoming Model United Nations conferences hosted not only by The Doon School, but by all other MUN coordinators across the country. It was a bounce back from the pandemic stronger than ever before with a greater number of schools both international and local present.
The opening ceremony featured speeches by the Secretary-General of the event, Riddhim Agarwal, Headmaster Dr Jagpreet Singh, and the Chief Guest, Rohan Chand Thakur, an IAS officer who has been appointed Managing Director of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation. He is an alumnus of The Doon School.
His speech on the occasion was about leadership, collaboration and failure, connected deeply to the tenets upon which the DSMUN was founded. The speeches of the Secretary-General and Headmaster likewise dealt with the importance of MUN conferences across the globe, and about how they instilled judgement and skills in the youth that would take them forward into positions of leadership, enacting positive change in the world.
