Dehradun, 1 Dec: The Indian Academy celebrated its Annual Cultural Function over two vibrant days exploring the profound themes, ‘My School My Pride’ presented by the students of classes PG to VII, and ‘ The Idea of Socrates’ presented by classes VIII to XII on 29 and 30 November, respectively, with great zeal and enthusiasm. The events left the audience mesmerised with spectacular displays of talent and creativity. The first event – ‘My School My Pride’ had Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, MLA, Raipur, and Dr Shivam Dangwal, an alumnus of The Indian Academy as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour, respectively.
Vice Principal Shuchi Mamgain highlighted the students’ achievements over the past academic session through her Annual Report. The programme featured a wide range of performances including English, Motivational, Garhwali, Sanskrit songs, a Patriotic dance, Micky & Minnie dance, Hasya Qawwali, street plays, a dance depicting the states of India, a ramp walk – junk food vs healthy food and many more presentations. The event witnessed the felicitation ceremony of the Subhash House as the winning house and the trophy for the same was awarded to the teacher in-charge of the house – Priyanka Negi. Nidhi Makhuri, Art & Craft teacher, and Nitin Hatwal, Hindi teacher received the Appreciation awards for the academic year, 2024-25.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour addressed the gathering and commended the school for its commitment to nurturing well rounded individuals. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Principal, Neelam Sharma.
The second event, ‘ The Idea of Socrates’, had MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, as the Chief Guest, Himani Shivpuri, Theatre, Film & TV Actress, as the Celebrated Guest, and alumnus Dr Ankur Nautiyal, as the Special Guest. Principal Neelam Sharma briefed the gathering about the curricular and co-curricular activities held during the year 2024 through her Annual Report. The highlight of the day was ‘The Trial of Socrates’ and the unique Greek dances depicting the fusion of ancient and modern ideologies. Prizes were given to Divit Shukla, Anika Verma of Class X and Akansha Chamoli of class XII for being the toppers of the academic session, 2023-2024.
Teachers and staff including Shakuntala Devi, Geeta Shahi, Deepa Devi (Helping staff), Bharat Kaintura, Office Accountant, Richa Bairagi, Yogita Sharma, Sarita Bijalwan, Dr Charu Singhal, Deepa Bist (Teachers) and Nishant Tyagi, the Coordinator, were felicitated with awards for rendering ten years of service to the institution. Meenu Rana, Chemistry Teacher received the Appreciation award, and Anuradha Aswal, Science teacher and Coordinator, was honoured with ‘The Teacher of the Year’ award.
Himani Shivpuri applauded the students for their thought provoking performances and encouraged the audience to imbibe Socratic values in their daily lives. Umesh Sharma Kau and Dr Ankur Nautiyal congratulated the school management, teachers, staff and parents for giving their valuable contributions to the holistic development of the students. Shaurya Khanduri, the Assistant Director, mentioned the vibrant spirit and hard work of the students and staff that was showcased in the spectacular show. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Director, Munendra Khanduri.
