Dehradun, 1 Dec: The third session on the final day of the 2nd Edition of the Crime Literature Festival of India featured acclaimed journalist Mazhar Farooqui in conversation with moderator Pooja Khanna. The discussion, titled ‘The Maz Files: From Chasing Conmen and Reuniting Families to Being Chased by Cannibals’, offered a captivating glimpse into Farooqui’s distinguished career, which has spanned more than two decades.

Farooqui, who has earned the moniker ‘Indian James Bond’, recounted his most thrilling assignments, including his investigation into the global cyber scam industry, where individuals from impoverished regions are coerced into running fraudulent operations. He emphasised the vital role of journalists in uncovering hidden truths and shedding light on such exploitative practices.

The session also delved into Farooqui’s memorable moments with global icons, including a chance encounter with legendary Michael Jackson and a meeting with Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan. He shared his thoughts on the current state of Journalism, discussing the rise of sensationalism and how the obsession with drama often undermines the integrity of news.

Farooqui also spoke about his book, ‘The Maz Files: Scoops, Scams, and Showdowns’, which offers readers an inside look at the behind-the-scenes moments of his high-stakes investigations. He revealed the inspiration for writing the book, aiming to document the untold stories that defined his career.

This engaging session highlighted the power of investigative journalism and the courage it takes to confront uncomfortable truths, leaving the audience inspired and reflective on the evolving media landscape.
