DEHRADUN, 16 Mar: Thailand has always been a much preferred destination for Indians, but their favourites have been some of the better known cities such as Bangkok and Pataya. But, now, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is proactively involved in promoting some of the new destinations such as Samut Songtram, Trat, Koh Chang, all of which are approximately just a 1.5 hour drive from Bangkok. Also, the top new emerging destinations are the new shopping centres such as Maeklong Railway Market, Ampawa Floating Market, New Mall Luxury Icon Siam, etc. This apart, in the northern part of the country, two new destinations, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, which are greener, are being promoted. According to Isra Stapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, “Our aim is to promote and showcase Thailand as a perfect destination for travelers who love exploring new destinations and creating unforgettable memories. For this we have organised a special programme for senior citizens tomorrow at a local club in Doon. Our focus is Uttarakhand this time.” From boutique hotels & resorts, Michelin star restaurants like Gaggan and Nahm, luxury dinner cruises like Manhora and Apsara, popular roof tops bars like Red Sky and Sirocco, a range of world class spas, to a host of activities like shopping at the floating market or the newly opened ICON Siam, Thailand, is a perfect getaway for travelers to pamper themselves. In an interactive session with the travel agents of Doon, the new destinations were discussed. Factors such as close proximity to India, availability of direct flights, visa on arrival facility and favourable warm climate through the year are some of the reasons that have made Thailand a preferred choice for travelers, especially the senior citizens, the Director stated. “Apart from the above, the warm Thai hospitality and welcoming nature of the Thai people are among the main reasons that make Thailand a favourite holiday destination among senior travelers,” he underlined.
