Tree fall due to rain disrupts Haridwar-Doon rail route

HARIDWAR, 1 Aug: A major disruption occurred on the Haridwar–Dehradun–Rishikesh rail route on Saturday afternoon when a huge tree collapsed on the Railway track near Bhimgoda Kund in Haridwar during heavy rainfall. Along with the tree, boulders from the hillside also rolled onto the Bhimgoda Railway tunnel section, blocking the line and affecting the movement of several trains. The fallen tree also struck a high‑tension electricity line, further impacting rail operations.
Railway teams and officials rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and began clearing operations on a war footing. The tree was cut and removed from the track, while boulders were cleared to make the line safe. A train had approached the site at the time of the incident, but the loco pilot displayed alertness and stopped the train in time, preventing any mishap.
The obstruction led to delays and halts for nearly half a dozen trains, with some stopped en route and others running behind schedule. Railway authorities prioritised passenger safety and temporarily suspended traffic on the affected section until the track and power line were secured.
By evening, the track was fully cleared and railway traffic restored. Officials confirmed that services resumed only after ensuring complete safety of the line. The railway administration continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured that normal operations will now proceed without hindrance.
