Dehradun, 29 Jul: Two officials posted at the Sitarganj Tehsil in Udham Singh Nagar district have been arrested by the Vigilance Establishment today while allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant in connection with revenue proceedings relating to land attachment and recovery certificate (RC) action.
According to the Vigilance Establishment, the complainant had alleged that Collection Amin Madan Lal Sharma and Senior Assistant Bhupendra Singh had demanded gratification to terminate the land attachment (lien) order, release the land from lien (attachment) and close the recovery certificate proceedings initiated against the complainant’s wife’s Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan. The complaint stated that Madan Lal Sharma had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000, while Bhupendra Singh had sought a bribe of Rs 6,000 for facilitating the work.
After the complaint was found to be prima facie genuine, the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Establishment, Haldwani Sector, constituted a trap team under the supervision of an Inspector to verify the allegations and take appropriate action.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Establishment’s Haldwani trap team conducted the operation on 29 July and allegedly caught the accused officials red-handed while accepting the bribe inside their office at Tehsil Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district. Madan Lal Sharma, son of Kishori Lal Sharma and a resident of Boringwali Gali, Sitarganj, was allegedly caught while accepting Rs 8,000 from the complainant, while Senior Assistant Bhupendra Singh Rana, son of Pratap Singh Rana and a resident of Aamkheda Patti, Balkheda, Nanakmatta in Udham Singh Nagar district, was allegedly caught while accepting Rs 6,000.
Both accused were arrested on the spot and further investigation into the case is in progress. Meanwhile Director, Vigilance, Dr V Murugeshan appealed to the public to actively support the campaign against corruption by reporting instances of bribery and corruption through the Vigilance Establishment’s toll-free helpline number 1064 or its WhatsApp helpline number 9456592300.
