Dehradun, 26 Mar: Representatives of various trade associations and social organisations met the SSP, here, on Wednesday. They complained about the allegedly harassment of traders by political party workers.

The traders told the SSP that some members of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) were threatening shopkeepers and demanding money. They said that UKD workers were entering shops and forcing traders to pay them. One major complaint was about an incident in Rajpur, where UKD members allegedly misbehaved with the owner and staff of a café lodge. They tried to pressure them for illegal payments. The traders also spoke about a social media post by Santosh Bhandari on Facebook. They said that he used offensive language against the Vaishya community and tried to provoke people against them.

The SSP, Ajai Singh, assured the traders that strict action was being taken. He said that police had already registered cases at Rajpur and Raipur police stations and were investigating the matter. Another similar complaint from the Raipur area was also under investigation. He said that anyone trying to spread hatred through social media or other means would face strict legal action. He assured the traders that the police will not allow anyone to harass or exploit them.

The SSP also advised people to report salary disputes to the police or labour department instead of taking matters into their own hands. The meeting was attended by Vipin Nagaliya (Doon Udyog Vyapar Mandal), Dhruv Gulati (Doon Udyog Yuva Vyapar Mandal), Vivek (Uttaranchal Sarv Samaj Sabha), Gurjinder Anand (Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha), Aadesh Mansle (Rashtriya Swabhiman Morcha), Vivek Agrawal (Dilaram Bazar Vyapar Mandal), and other trade and social organisation officials.
