U’khand Journalists’ Federation celebrates National Hindi Journalism Day

Dehradun, 31 May: The ‘Uttarakhand Journalists’ Federation’ celebrated National Hindi Journalism Day with a grand ceremony, during which nine journalists were honoured with the “Patrakar Gaurav Samman–2026” for their outstanding contributions to journalism.
The event was held at the IRDT Auditorium under the chairmanship of the Federation’s Central President, The chief speaker was, Anoop Bajpai, Resident Editor of Amar Ujala, Uttarakhand edition.
Addressing the gathering, Anoop Bajpai said that embracing the changing nature of journalism is the need of the hour. He emphasised that journalists can maintain their relevance and credibility by working with impartiality, honesty, and dedication. He also encouraged the positive adoption of modern technology and remarked that the true success of a journalist lies in the impact of news on society.
Bajpai stressed the importance of preserving and promoting the Hindi language. Expressing concern over declining language proficiency among younger generations, he noted that a study found many school students in Dehradun unable to correctly spell words such as “Dehradun” and “Devbhoomi”.
The programme began with the traditional lighting of a ceremonial lamp before an image of Goddess Saraswati. Artists from the Hansa Cultural Group presented a devotional Saraswati Vandana performance. Guests were welcomed with bouquets and mementos.
The Special Guest said that while journalism is witnessing innovation and experimentation in a changing environment, intense competition appears to be affecting its core values. He urged journalists to maintain impartiality and originality in their reporting.
The following journalists were honoured with mementos, certificates of appreciation, and ceremonial shawls for their contributions to journalism: Ajay Rana, President of the Press Club; Bishan Singh Bora; Vimal Purwal; Sunil Navprabhat; Sushil Chamoli; Rajeev Sharma; Rajeev Mathews; Tina Vaishya and Ghanshyam Joshi.
