Dehradun, 26 Sep: The Uttarakhand Government has claimed that the state is making records in providing employment. In support of its claim, the government has quoted from the latest Period Labour Force Survey (PLFS) report. Quoting the report, the government has also shared that Uttarakhand has beaten the national average in this regard.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also reacted to the report and claimed that it is a pointer to the government’s commitment and efforts to generate employment and reduce unemployment. The report has stated that unemployment has decreased in Uttarakhand due to increased employment opportunities in the last one year. According to the PLFS report, the unemployment rate for all age groups has come down from 4.5 to 4.3 percent.  At the same time, the maximum reduction in unemployment in Uttarakhand can be seen in the age group of 15-29 years, where the unemployment rate has come down from 14.2 to 9.8 percent.

The report also states that there has been a significant improvement in the worker population ratio in all age groups in the state in 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. The worker population ratio in the age group of 15-29 years has increased from 27.5 percent to 44.2 percent.  The government has observed that this is an indicator of the fact that the youth in the state have got more employment opportunities. As per the report, the worker population ratio in the age group of 15-59 years has also increased from 57.2 percent to 61.2 percent. Whereas for the category of 15 years and above, it has increased from 53.5 percent to 58.1 percent. The participation of youth in the labour force has also increased in the year 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. In the category of 15 years and above, the labour force participation has increased from 56 percent to 60.7 percent.

The report also points out that Uttarakhand has also surpassed the national average in the labour population average. In Uttarakhand, this average has been 49 percent in the age group of 15-29 as compared to the national average of 46.5 percent. Similarly, in the age group of 15-59, Uttarakhand has an average of 64.4 while the national average is 64.3 and in the age group of 15 years and above, Uttarakhand has an average of 60.7 while the national average is 60.1.

Commenting on the PLFS report, CM Dhami asserted that it is the resolve of his government to make Uttarakhand stand with the leading states of the country. With the blessings of the people, the government is working day and night to fulfil this resolve. The state is creating more employment opportunities. He also reminded that the more than 16 thousand youth have been given permanent jobs in the government sector itself. He adds that this process has started in the private sector as well. Referring to the recent MoUs entered with the industry for investment in the state, the CM claimed that, in the coming years, with most of the investment agreements coming to fruition, lakhs of youth will get employment. Uttarakhand will not only provide employment to the youth but will also lead them to become employers themselves.
