Dehradun, 17 Dec: In the new year, approximately 39,000 new voters in Uttarakhand will gain the “right to vote” as part of the Special Summary Revision Programme 2025.  It has been stated that more than 116,000 applications were received for registering names in the voters’ list, with around 39,000 applications from individuals aged between 18 and 19 years who will be first time voters.

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand Dr BVRC Purushottam has disclosed that following the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, a statewide campaign has been underway since October focusing on registering and amending names in the voter list on a large scale. Purushottam emphasised the importance of encouraging new and young voters to register. Under this campaign, 116,428 applications were received in the form of Form 6, with 38,909 applicants in the 18 to 19 age group.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande reminded that the Election Commission of India updates the voters’ list annually through the Special Summary Revision Programme. The Commission has now set four eligibility dates for registering names in the list each year to be 1 January, 1 April, 1 July, and 1 October for those who have turned 18 as on these dates.

To ensure the accuracy of the voters’ list, officers have been assigned the responsibility of the Super Checking Campaign in different districts. Officers are seeking feedback from voters while conducting super checks at polling booths regularly. Dr Jogdande also mentioned that the final publication of the voter list under the Special Summary Revision Programme 2025 will be done on 6 January 2025.
