5465 degrees awarded at Graphic Era Convocation

Dehradun, 19 May: As many as 5467 students were conferred graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees at the 11th Convocation Ceremony of Graphic Era Deemed University, here, today.

On the occasion, Secretary of the Union Department of Science and Technology, Professor Abhay Karandikar, urged the youngsters to continuously update their skills and give the best in their work.

The convocation ceremony commenced at the Silver Jubilee Convention Centre of Graphic Era amid a grand and dignified academic procession.

Chief Guest Professor Abhay Karandikar encouraged the new degree holders to maintain a passion for learning, work diligently, and uphold honesty in their endeavours. He emphasised the importance of risk-taking and urged students to always strive for excellence in whichever field they choose for their careers.

Referring to the New Education Policy, Prof Karandikar said that it has worked on creating better coordination between the students and teachers and has made education accessible for all. It has increased the use of technology in education. He highlighted the increase of the practical approach as well, adding education has become learner-centric, enhancing creativity in students, hence changing the dynamics of the country. Covid 19 also significantly changed the mode of education. He acknowledged the university’s initiative to provide online courses to undergraduate and post graduate students. Known globally as the missile man, member of the Niti Ayog and Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University, Dr VK Saraswat, in his address, urged degree holders to maintain creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm and ethical values in life. Dr Saraswat advised youngsters to never shy away from their responsibilities, become leaders and maintain high standards in their endeavours wherever they work.

Mentioning Graphic Era Deemed University, Dr Saraswat said that, after its inception in 1993, the university has continued to grow exponentially in all the fields and today it is at the 54th rank of top 100 Universities of India. It shows the dedication of Dr Ghanshala. The environment of Graphic Era is vibrant and students of more than 23 countries are studying here. The faculty of the University are included in the most cited top 2% scientists of the world.

Graphic Era Group of Institutions Chairman Dr Kamal Ghanshala advised students to stay away from insecure people. He asked them to dream big and focus on their goals with full passion. Dr Ghanshala said that, if the youngsters learn here and go abroad, after acquiring knowledge there, they should come back and invest here. He expressed joy that top 4 scientists of the country were present on the stage.

Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Dr Shailesh Nayak was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Science.

Vice Chancellor Dr Narpinder Singh administered the oath to the degree holders. Pro Chancellor Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma proposed the vote of thanks. Registrar Dr DK Joshi led the academic procession and presented the details of degree holders of the year 2022 and 2023. Scientist Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Hill University Dr Sanjay Jasola, members of the executive council, faculty members and a large number of parents were present during the convocation ceremony.

89.9 % Medals won by Girls

Dehradun, 19 May: Girls were ahead in winning medals at the Convocation of Graphic Era Deemed University. As many as 89.9 % girls have taken medals over the last two years.

During the ceremony, 39 Gold, 40 silver and 37 bronze medals were given to students of the passing out year 2022. Students of passing out year 2023 received 44 gold, 44 silver and 44 bronze medals. Also, 89.9 % of the total medals were received by girls. On this occasion, 66 researchers who have completed their research works in 14 subjects including engineering, management, computer science, maths, physics, chemistry, etc., were honoured with PHD degrees.

A total of 2569 students who completed their course in 2022, and 2896 students who completed their courses in 2023, were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony. Scholars who completed the PhDs in 2024 were also awarded PhD degrees in the ceremony.
