Dehradun, 18 Dec: Excitement regarding the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand has sparked a surge in volunteer registrations. College students, retired army officers, and individuals from even other states including Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, have joined the drive. While the Sports Department requires around 2,500 volunteers, registrations have already surged close to the 10,000 mark, fuelled by the recent launch of the event’s mascot and other symbols.

Amit Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of the National Games Secretariat and ADG, Police, stressed on the importance of community participation in a mega event like the National Games. Additional CEO Prashant Arya shared that many retired officers have also expressed interest in contributing as volunteers, underlining the wide appeal of the initiative.

It was shared by the officials that those interested in becoming volunteers must register on the official Sports Department website, [38nguk.in](http://38nguk.in). Eligibility requires participants to be 18 years or older. During registration, candidates can select between two categories: one for individuals with a sports background and the other for general applicants.

All registrants will receive an e-certificate as a token of appreciation. Selected volunteers will be awarded a separate certificate for their role in the National Games 2025. Additionally, the Sports Department will provide necessary training to volunteers, who will then assist in various tasks, including event management, facilitation of the guests, and logistics.

The current deadline for registration is 25 December 2024. However, the Higher Education Department has requested an extension. The Sports Department aims to finalise selection of volunteers by the first or second week of January 2025 to allow adequate time for training and deployment.

Commenting on this development, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasised that the National Games are a collective responsibility, not confined to any single department. He added that, with everyone’s support, Uttarakhand would host the National Games in a grand manner. He called upon everyone to participate in some capacity and asserted that it is an honour for the state to host this event.
