Sir,

Please refer to the very wise write up on page 4 of GP date 13 March 2026 regarding comments by a sitting MLA. I would also like to bring to the memory of the readers my own write up in GP dated 27 Feb 2025 regarding expanding the scope of UCC by including the aspect of legalising the act of ‘Proliferation by Prolification’. Which simply means ‘Family Planning’.

There had been a phase when the abundance of youth was a boon to our nation’s progress. The manpower by which we could grow and manufacture more at costs much lower than the developed countries. So, we exported world standard goods and agri-produce and attracted FDI. That is how the now superpower, China started to attain its affluence. Later they too brought a strict norm of ‘One Family One Child’ when they had the know-how to mechanise /digitalise/ Robotise their agriculture and industry.

Now that the world has acquired a much more advanced technology based on AI which is overall cheaper and much less labour intensive, our abundance of young population may become very difficult to appease and for them to have nothing to work for. Meaning the scourge of ‘unemployment’ that can become a great impediment in the progress of a democracy like ours. Crime and law and order may also increase uncontrollably.

Therefore, the planners and administrators should heed this wise advice by a young politician who seems to be thinking for the good of the nation. Yes, and rightly so, the compulsory population control would also help in controlling our demographic changes which become a great factor in performing our democratic ritual of electioneering. However, if we can equip our youth with necessary skills to work with AI we may even export their expertise to earn the world’s gratitude and acquire a lot of inward remittances to help our economy.

Yours etc.,

S Paul
