Women Councilors interact with Mayor on pending works


DEHRADUN, 30 Jan: Panchayati Rule and Gender Awareness Training Institute (PRAGATI) organised a meeting for more than 15 newly elected women Municipal Councilors (Parshads) with the Mayor, Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ at the Municipal Corporation here, today, in which the problems regarding street lights, improper drainage, waste disposal, etc., faced by them were shared by each. These were noted by the Mayor, who promised that immediate action would be taken to solve these problems.
Municipal Councilor Nandini voiced the opinion of all present by putting forth a proposal of honorarium for them so as to meet the basic expense of fuel and telephone charges. Rekha Pundir, Secretary, PRAGATI, added that in Punjab and Haryana, the Parshads were given a sum of Rs 10,000 per month. Anita and Promila Kohli suggested that this matter be included in the agenda of the first board meeting.
Meera Kathaiyat asked whether work should be initiated again for the budget sanctioned in the previous term, to which Gama provided details to one and all regarding pending works. These were noted down by the councilors. He also suggested that, after completion of the pending work, a board depicting the amount sanctioned and utilised, along with the name of the former Parshad and the Mayor were to be mentioned on the new board.
Earlier, Nandani acknowledged the efforts of the PRAGATI team and the Mayor suggested the organisation conduct programmes on voter literacy in all the wards of Dehradun, as in the previous elections more than 20,000 votes went waste.
