Women’s Safety in Uttarakhand Hospitals a Priority: Dr R Rajesh Kumar

Dehradun, 19 Aug: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, today, Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar visited Doon Medical College, where he was greeted by female medical staff who tied rakhis on his wrist. Dr Kumar emphasised that the safety of doctors and medical staff is a top priority for the state government. Following the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, the government will soon issue new guidelines (SOPs) to enhance safety in hospitals. Dr Kumar also mentioned plans to establish a police post at Doon Medical College. He stated that he would write to the Home Secretary and Director General of Police in this regard. He assured that ensuring the safety of female doctors, nurses, and staff in hospitals is a priority and that new SOPs will be developed soon.

During the visit, female staff expressed their concerns about security, especially during night shifts, and requested the presence of one female and one male police officer around the clock. Dr Kumar promised to address these concerns and ensure that necessary security measures are implemented.

Following the brutal murder of a doctor in Kolkata, there is widespread anger among doctors. The state government and Health Secretary have assured that staff safety will be prioritised. According to Dr Kumar, health services in all state hospitals are functioning normally.

Medical Director Dr Ashutosh Sayana stated that measures for women’s safety are a priority for the government and that adequate security arrangements will be made in hospitals. Doon Medical College Principal Dr Geeta Jain stated that the female staff were happy to receive safety assurances from the Health Secretary on Raksha Bandhan.

The event was attended by Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Dr Geeta Jain, Dr Anurag Agarwal, Dr Dhananjay Dobhal, Dr MK Pant, Dr Anil Joshi, Dr Nitin, Dr Shiv, Dr Ankur Pandey, Dr Yogeshwari, PRO Mahendra Bhandari, as well as Vinod Nainwal, Pramod Mishra, and Naveen Khanduri.
