DEHRADUN, 5 Jul: The management of Shri Guru Ram Rai University has taken the initiative to promote sports and sportspersons in the state of Uttarakhand. In the current session, 10 percent seats have been reserved for students in the Sports Quota. At the same time, the students taking admissions under Sports Quota will be privileged with a discount of 10 to 50 percent in tuition fees as compared to the general students. The benefit of Sports Quota will be available for those students who have won medals at school, block, district, state or national levels. Such students will be able to get the benefit of discount on showing the certificate issued by the principal or any other related officer. This information was provided by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Pitambar Prasad Dhyani. SGRR University is going to take the initiative keeping in mind the potential of sports and sportspersons in Uttarakhand. The University Management is preparing enough playgrounds for athletics, archery, boxing, basketball, badminton, table tennis, football, cricket, gymnastics, hockey, karate, shooting, handball, judo, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, etc. Also, the management is hiring coaches from the National Institute of Sports, Patiala. SGRR University Management has consulted many reputed institutions on preparing sports grounds of international level. The motive of SGRR University Management is that the deserving sportspersons avail of the best opportunities so that they can prove their talent at national and international levels. “SGRR Management has big play grounds in Dehradun. These valuable resources are being used optimistically to provide better opportunities for the sports and sportspersons. SGRR Management has made an action plan to prepare the playgrounds so that they can match international standards. Here the students will avail of facilities and coaching of international level. SGRR University Management will continuously make efforts to make available the best playgrounds, coaches from National Institute of Sports, Patiala, and the best sports equipment. Soon SGRR University will make available a platform for sportspersons that will train them in a manner that they will perform in outstanding manner at national and international levels,” asserts Dr Pitambar Prasad Dhyani.
