Dehradun, 18 May: A team of the 16th Finance Commission, led by Commission Chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya, arrived in Dehradun on Sunday. A crucial meeting will be held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, at which the State Government will present its proposal before the Commission.
Later in the afternoon, the Commission will also hold meetings with representatives from urban local bodies, panchayati raj institutions, and political parties.
The delegation, led by Dr Panagariya, includes Commission Members Annie George Mathew, Manoj Panda, and Soumya Kanti Ghosh; Commission Secretary Ritvik Pandey; Joint Secretary KK Mishra; and Joint Director P Amruthavarshini. Upon their arrival at Hotel Hyatt Regency on Old Mussoorie Road, the team was welcomed in a traditional manner to the beats of the local Dhol-Damau.
On Monday, the Commission will engage in deliberations with public representatives and officials at various levels. The day will begin with a high-level meeting at the Secretariat, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, where state officials will present their preparations and proposals. Later, at the Mussoorie Road hotel, the Commission will meet with representatives from urban local bodies, three-tier panchayats, and political parties.
Earlier, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal welcomed the Chairman and members of the Finance Commission upon their arrival at Jolly Grant Airport.
