Convocation-2024 held at Uttaranchal University

Dehradun 3 Dec: The Fourth Convocation of the Uttaranchal University was held in the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of the University, here, today. Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was the Chief Guest, and Higher Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, the Special Guest.

On his arrival, the Governor was presented a guard of honour by the 29 UK NCC Battalion of the university. He paid floral tribute to the Param Vir Chakra winners on the Shaurya Wall of the university.

The programme was inaugurated in Indian tradition and attire. The procession entered the venue amidst the recitation of Swasti by the Acharyas. It was led by the Registrar of the University.

Chancellor Jitendra Joshi welcomed the guests and presented them with mementos. He said that the students who have studied here and are achievers in many countries including the whole of India are an extension of the Uttaranchal University family. He also congratulated the graduating students.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dharm Buddhi presented a report related to the progress and achievements of the University on this occasion. He revealed that Uttaranchal University is currently providing education through regular and online medium to more than 22,000 students from all the states of the country including 13 countries of the world. At the ceremony, degrees would be given to 2356 students including 14 doctorate degrees and 34 gold medals. This year, scholarships worth Rs 69.22 crore were awarded under merit and need based financial categories by the university. In the world famous URI Ranking 2024, Uttaranchal University got fourth place in India and 70th place globally for research and innovation in industrial applications. The university got fifth place in India and 25th place in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact International Ranking 2024. The university has the distinction of publishing a total of 734 IPRs including patents, copyrights, designs and trademarks. Students studying here are working in renowned companies of the world including Google, Microsoft, IBM. Students are in the front line in the government sector. Uttaranchal University has the credit of giving officers to the armed forces of India including 72 judicial officers.

Internationally renowned businessman, drilling engineer and social worker SK Mehta was conferred an honorary degree by the Governor.

Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that convocation is an unforgettable day in the life of every student. He said that all the students who make Dehradun an important milestone in their educational life are fortunate. Describing the achievements of the university as exemplary, he praised the dedication and commitment of the Chairman and all the officers and teachers of Uttaranchal University.

The Governor said that education of a person never ends; one keeps learning something or the other till the last day of his life. He appealed to the students to use their energy and education in creative work and contribute to making the country a Viksit Bharat. On the excellent achievements of the girl students, he said that the daughters of Uttarakhand are different from the rest of the country. He advised the students to become job creators and not job seekers. He described the resolution of Uttaranchal University’s Technology 5.O as a game changer. He described the free education in the university to the children of low-paid employees and scholarships of Rs 69 lakhs as exemplary.

In the evening, an alumni meet was organised in the university in which the alumni shared their experiences and achievements.

On this occasion, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, Vice President of University Governing Committee Anuradha Joshi, Vice President of University Ankita Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, Executive Director Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Registrar Dr Anuj Rana, Chairman of Tonsbridge School Vijay Nagar, Rajiv Sharma, Jagdish Joshi, Prof Pradeep Suri, Prof Poonam Rawat, Prof Ajay Singh, Prof MP Singh, Prof Sonal Sharma, Prof Sumit Chaudhary, Prof Vikas Jakhmola, Prof Manish Badoni, Prof Kartikeya Gaud, Prof Rajesh Singh, Manoj Dhyani, KB Pokhriyal, Dr Ramveer Tanwar and a large number of students were also present.
