Dehradun, 26 Jun: Four Executive Engineers of the Uttarakhand Peyjal Nigam have been terminated from service after it was found that they had wrongly taken advantage of reservations to get appointed. This has been revealed after an investigation.
As per the rules, the benefits of reservation in state government jobs are only available to those with local domicile. The investigation in this regard revealed that these officers had wrongly claimed benefit of SC and OBC reservations in getting selected and appointed. Though these officers do belong to the SC and OBC categories, none of them were domiciles of Uttarakhand and, therefore, were not entitled to apply for jobs in the state under these categories.
The corporation management has terminated the services of these four executive engineers. Three of them were recruited in 2005 and one in 2007.
The corporation management has stated that Executive Engineers Sumit Anand and Munish Karara, recruited in 2005, are originally residents of Uttar Pradesh, who illegally applied under reserved SC category and managed to get appointed in Uttarakhand on this basis. Similarly, Muzammil Hasan, Executive Engineer of 2005 batch, is also a resident of UP, who had claimed benefit under the OBC category.
Applicants from other states are not entitled to apply for any reserved category post (for SCs/ST or OBC) in any state as per the existing laws. They were however entitled to apply for these posts in general category. Sarita Gupta, recruited in 2007, took the benefit of reservation for women category in Uttarakhand despite being a resident of another state.
In this regard, after due investigation, the report was submitted to the administration of the corporation which in return had sought explanations from the persons concerned. They were given a change to present their arguments. They however failed to provide any satisfactory response or explanation and consequently they have been terminated from service on the orders of DM of Peyjal Nigam Ranveer Singh Chauhan.
