‘67th Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates’, ‘35th Kamla Jeevan Hindi Debates’ held at Doon School

Dehradun, 3 Sep: The Doon School held the 67th Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates alongside the 35th Kamla Jeevan Inter-School Hindi Debates and the Doon School Quiz ’24 from 29 August to 1 September. The event saw participation from 26 schools and a total of 206 students across various competitions.

The 67th Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates featured 18 teams in Chucks (54 participants), 22 teams in JEDI (66 participants), 18 teams in Kamla Jeevan (54 participants), and 16 teams in the Quiz (32 participants). Utilising the World Schools’ Debating Format, the debates showcased intense intellectual engagement, culminating in a thrilling final between The Doon School Foot and Vasant Valley School. In a memorable finale, Vasant Valley School clinched the coveted title, marking a significant achievement in this prestigious series.

The JEDI debate focused on the critical role of parental involvement in today’s education system. Vasant Valley School argued for substantial parental engagement in establishing values and supporting academic achievement, while Neerja Modi School contended that promoting student autonomy fosters independence and better prepares youth for adulthood. The Opposition triumphed, emphasising the importance of balanced parent-child relationships.

In the 35th edition of the Kamla Jeevan Inter-School Hindi Debates, 16 schools competed fiercely. The Doon School Foot team, featuring Aryavardhan Agarwal, Arnav Tiwari, and Aditya Shashank Agarwal, emerged victorious against Vasant Valley School in the finals. Aryavardhan Agarwal was honoured as Best Speaker and Best Speaker of the Tournament, while Arnav Tiwari received the Most Promising Speaker award.

The Doon School Quiz’24 attracted 16 schools nationwide. After exhilarating preliminary rounds and a semi-final featuring St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun joined the top five finalists. In a highly competitive finale, Welham Girls’ School was declared the winner, with The Doon School Foot and St Joseph’s Academy securing first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

The Doon School extended gratitude to all the judges for their support and flawless adjudication, enhancing the event’s standards.
