Dehradun, 20 Mar:  Pauri district continues to reel under the menace of leopard attacks, with yet another incident reported from Chaubattakhal area. A leopard pounced upon an 11-year-old boy, leaving him seriously injured. The sudden assault spread panic in the locality, but as family members and villagers raised an alarm, the leopard fled, abandoning the boy. The victim had meanwhile already sustained deep injuries to his ear and head and was rushed to the nearest hospital. After receiving primary treatment, he was referred to the district hospital in Pauri, where doctors provided further medical care. His condition is presently stated to be stable, though due to head injuries he has been referred to a higher centre for specialised treatment.

According to reports received in Pauri, the boy was studying in the balcony of his two-storey house late in the evening when the leopard struck. His cries drew the attention of his family members and neighbours, who rushed to the spot, forcing the predator to retreat. The boy was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctors administered first aid before transferring him to the district hospital in view of his critical condition.

The incident has triggered widespread fear and anger among residents. The villagers allege that despite the leopard’s prolonged presence in the region, no concrete measures have been taken by the authorities. They have demanded urgent action from the administration and forest department to capture the animal and ensure public safety. Locals expressed frustration, stating that wild animals have already created an atmosphere of terror in the village, and repeated attacks have put lives at constant risk. They urged the forest department to act decisively to prevent further tragedies.

Chaubattakhal and adjoining areas have witnessed several leopard sightings and attacks in the past, leaving residents fearful and anxious.
