Dehradun, 31 Mar: Taking serious note of recent incidents that indicate a worsening law & order situation in the state and particularly in Dehradun, Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan today convened a meeting at the Secretariat with senior officials of the Home and Police Departments to review law and order in Dehradun. During the meeting, he expressed deep displeasure over the rising incidents of road rage and unruly behaviour in Dehradun and directed that surveillance be intensified and stern action taken against miscreants.
Bardhan instructed that police patrolling in Dehradun city and adjoining areas be increased, particularly during the peak hours. The SSP, Dehradun, has been directed to ensure that all the station officers (SOs) strengthen patrols, with day, night and morning patrolling made more rigorous.
The CS also emphasised that the prescribed closing time for the bars and the restaurants must be enforced strictly. He asserted that Dehradun should not be allowed to become a hub for parties and unruly gatherings during weekends. The bar operators must be made aware of the rules and compelled to shut establishments on time. He ordered strict action against bars violating operational norms and against illegal operators. He also warned that the negligent officials failing in their duties would also face consequences.
Bardhan further directed that homestays in the outskirts of the city be also monitored to ensure they are not misused by obtaining bar licences. He directed mapping and surveillance of such homestays to prevent their diversion from tourism promotion to unauthorised activities.
Bardhan stressed that, with the Delhi-Dehradun highway opening soon, the weekends would require even greater preparedness. He called for advance planning and directed that a thorough verification campaign of tenants and PG residents be undertaken to identify potential troublemakers.
Among those present at the meeting were Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, IG-Garhwal Rajeev Swaroop, District Magistrate, Dehradun, Savin Bansal, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal and other senior officials.
