Block Education Officer nabbed taking bribe in Doiwala

Dehradun, 1 Apr: The Vigilance Department today arrested a Block Education Officer posted in Doiwala block while accepting a bribe. The officer, identified as Dhanveer Singh Bisht, was caught red-handed near Nepali Farm while taking Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. Following the arrest, he was taken to Raiwala police station for interrogation.

According to the officials, Bisht had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a school owner in Rishikesh in exchange for granting a favourable grade. The complainant reported the matter to Vigilance, which then laid a trap. As per the plan, Bisht arrived in his private vehicle at Nepali Farm to collect the money, where the Vigilance team apprehended him immediately after he accepted the cash.

The Vigilance Department confirmed that a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act 6, against Bisht, son of Gindu Singh, currently serving as Sub-Divisional Education Officer and acting Block Education Officer, Doiwala, Dehradun. Alongside him, Pushpanjali, wife of Pankaj Sharma and owner of Uttaranchal Modern School, Gumaniwala, Rishikesh, was also arrested. Both were caught while accepting Rs 1 lakh from the complainant in return for clearing reimbursement bills under the Right to Education Act for students of Ganga Valley Junior High School, Rishikesh.

The officials shared that detailed questioning is underway and further investigation will follow.
