CHAMOLI, 6 Jun: Road accidents on the Badrinath Highway continue unabated. A tempo traveller carrying pilgrims overturned between Hanuman Chatti and Binakuli, leaving eight passengers injured while others escaped safely. This accident happened on Saturday. the vehicle, bearing registration number UP-15 ET-1020, was returning towards Rishikesh after pilgrims had completed darshan at Badrinath Dham.
According to reports, the tempo traveller suddenly went out of control and overturned on the road. At the time of the accident, sixteen pilgrims including the driver were on board. On receiving the information, the police and SDRF teams rushed to the spot and with the help of the local residents, rescued all the passengers. The injured were first taken to JP Company Hospital for first aid treatment and later referred to the Community Health Centre at Joshimath for better medical care.
The injured have been identified as Disha (15) daughter of Vinod Saini, Varsha daughter of Vinod Saini, Lalita wife of Amit, Jyoti wife of Pradeep Giri, Pushpa Giri wife of Vijendra, driver Jameel son of Matloop, Rajkumar son of Lakshmi and Basu daughter of Surendra Saini. All hail from different areas of Meerut district. Eyewitnesses said there was chaos at the site immediately after the accident, but swift action by police and SDRF ensured rescue operations were completed quickly. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time but was later restored.
Badrinath police station in-charge Navneet Bhandari stated that the tempo traveller was heading towards Rishikesh when it overturned near Binakuli, causing minor injuries to eight passengers. All are under treatment and none is in serious condition. He added that during the Char Dham Yatra season, increasing traffic on the Badrinath National Highway and the challenges of mountain roads highlight the need for careful driving. Timely rescue operations prevented a major tragedy and all the lives were saved.
