Dehradun, 8 Jun: The Police have registered a case of fraud after Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar Sharma was allegedly cheated of Rs 4.50 lakhs in a bogus car sale. According to the complaint lodged at Rajpur police station by Sharma’s office manager Mohammad Asad Khan, Ranchi resident Khwaja Hussain had contacted him in August 2025 through WhatsApp offering to sell an old Morris car to Kumar. Hussain also sent photographs and details of the vehicle and assured that it would be delivered in Dehradun.

The deal was finalised for Rs 4.50 lakhs and the amount was transferred in instalments to the accused’s bank account. However, despite receiving the full payment Hussain neither delivered the car nor returned the money. When contacted about the delivery, he allegedly admitted to taking the money in the name of selling the car and later stopped answering calls.

Rajpur police station in‑charge PD Bhatt said that on the basis of the complaint a case has been registered against Khwaja Hussain under relevant sections of fraud. Bank accounts and online transactions are being examined and further legal action will follow based on the investigation.
