Dehradun, 10 Jun: In accordance with the directions of District Judge and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, Prem Singh Khimal, and under the guidance of the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority, Nainital, a special awareness programme was organised at Clock Tower Chowk in Dehradun today as part of the ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha’ campaign.

The awareness campaign is being conducted extensively across Dehradun district from 8 June to 14 June 2026. Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, Judge Seema Dungarakoti spoke about various aspects of road safety and encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic regulations. She also appealed to the motorists not to speed and to refrain from driving under the influence of intoxicants.

During the programme, information was also provided regarding the functions of the District Legal Services Authority and the free legal aid services available to eligible citizens. Participants were informed in detail about the NALSA toll-free helpline number 15100. It was explained that the District Legal Services Authority is committed to providing legal assistance to needy and deserving persons and regularly conducts awareness campaigns on important social and legal issues, similar to the ongoing road safety initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Traffic Inspector Samarveer Singh Rawat emphasised on the importance of providing timely assistance to road accident victims. He also urged the citizens to ensure that persons injured in a road accident admitted to a hospital within the ‘golden hour’ the first hour after the accident when they come across such accident cases on road. He added that prompt medical treatment can save lives. He said that such people who help in such cases are recognised as Good Samaritans and may be honoured for their humanitarian efforts. He also advised the public to use footpaths and zebra crossings while walking and stressed the importance of wearing seat belts and helmets.

Para Legal Volunteer Umeshwar Singh Rawat informed the public that vehicles should always be stopped before the stop line at intersections and that traffic signals, particularly red lights, must never be violated.

Monica, Manager, SL Honda, also addressed the gathering and shared important road safety messages with the participants. More than 200 people benefited from the awareness programme, which aimed to promote responsible road behaviour, enhance public awareness of traffic regulations and encourage greater participation in efforts to improve road safety.
