DM flags off voter awareness chariots, urges citizens to cooperate with BLOs in SIR

DEHRADUN, 13 Jun:voter awareness seminar was organised under the SVEEP programme at IT Park, Dehradun, on Saturday as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The event was aimed making the electoral roll accurate, updated and transparent. The programme was chaired by District Magistrate and District Election Officer Ashish Chauhan, who also flagged off voter awareness chariots on the occasion.
The awareness vehicles will travel across various wards and areas of the district to inform citizens about the special revision campaign and encourage all eligible residents to ensure that their names are included in the electoral roll.
Addressing the gathering, Ashish Chauhan appealed to the public representatives, representatives of political parties and citizens to actively participate in making the special revision programme (SIR) a success. He said the electoral roll revision campaign would continue until July 7 . During this period, the names of all the eligible voters would be added to the electoral rolls, while the names of deceased, shifted, absent and duplicate voters would be removed to ensure the preparation of a clean and error-free voter list.
He said that, in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission, the electoral roll is required to be fully updated and free from errors within the stipulated timeframe. As part of this exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been conducting door-to-door visits from June  8 to July 7 for the distribution and collection of enumeration forms.
The DM further informed that applications through Form-6 are also being accepted from new eligible citizens who will attain the age of 18 years on or before July 1, enabling them to register themselves as voters and secure inclusion in the electoral roll.
Providing details of the revision exercise, he said Dehradun district has a total of 1,882 polling stations spread across its 10 Assembly constituencies, with 13,76,813 registered voters. So far, enumeration forms have been distributed to 6,60,308 voters, accounting for approximately 47.96 per cent of the electorate. Simultaneously, the work of collecting and digitising the forms is progressing rapidly, and 35,476 enumeration forms have already been digitised.
Chauhan said the campaign is being carried out in fast-track mode and urged all the voters to extend full cooperation to their respective BLOs by filling and submitting the enumeration forms on time. He said timely participation by citizens would help ensure that the purification and updating of the electoral rolls are completed within the prescribed schedule.
He also informed that citizens can access voter-related information through the ECI-Net platform of the Election Commission. In addition, the “Book a Call with BLO” facility enables voters to directly connect with their concerned Booth Level Officer. For voter assistance and grievance redressal, citizens may also contact the Election Commission’s toll-free helpline number 1950.
The SVEEP programme’s Nodal Officer expressed gratitude to all citizens who participated in the awareness seminar. Among those present on the occasion were VK Dhaudiyal, Nodal Officer of the SVEEP programme and Chief Education Officer, District Programme Officer Jitendra Kumar, Assistant District Election Officer Narendra Prasad Devali, councillors Sanjeev Bansal and Abhishek Pant, Booth Level Officers and a large number of local residents.
