Dehradun, 24 Jun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today warned of stringent action against those responsible for sending threatening emails to various institutions and religious places in Uttarakhand. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a BJP event here in which he participated, Dhami asserted that any attempt to disturb law and order or undermine social harmony in the state will not be tolerated. He said the government has taken the matter with utmost seriousness and has directed the concerned agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents.

Dhami stated that all threat communications received by the state government are being examined in detail and that any person or organisation found involved in such activities would face strict legal action. He categorically stated that attempts to disrupt Uttarakhand’s law and order situation or create fear among the public would not be allowed to succeed. Emphasising on the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, he said that strict action would be ensured against anyone trying to take the law into their own hands or disturb the state’s social and religious harmony.

The CM further observed that Uttarakhand is known for its tradition of respecting all communities and carrying everyone together. The Devbhoomi has a unique cultural and spiritual identity and hosts major pilgrimages such as the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra, attracting devotees from across the country and abroad. The state government welcomes all the pilgrims and remains fully committed to ensuring their safety and convenience, he added.

It may be reminded here that Dhami’s statement comes in the wake of a series of threatening emails received by several government institutions, urban local bodies and religious places in the state, which triggered concern among security agencies yesterday. Panic had spread across Uttarakhand yesterday after multiple institutions and religious sites reportedly received emails threatening bomb attacks. However, extensive searches and security checks carried out thereafter have so far not revealed any suspicious objects or actual threats.

Among the establishments that had reportedly received the emails were the Mussoorie Municipal Council, Haridwar Municipal Corporation and some other state government institutions and offices like Police Stations etc. The messages also mentioned prominent religious destinations, including Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kedarnath and Badrinath, prompting authorities to treat the matter seriously.

According to preliminary information, several of the emails had been written in Punjabi and allegedly contained references linked to pro-Khalistan ideology. Investigating agencies are therefore examining all possible angles while analysing the origin, source and intent behind the messages.

Following the receipt of the threat emails, police, intelligence agencies and cyber experts were immediately mobilised. Security arrangements at the concerned institutions and other sensitive locations have been reviewed and strengthened. Given the large influx of pilgrims during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra, authorities have been directed to further tighten security measures across the state.

Security agencies are continuing their investigation into the source and possible motive behind the emails, while the government is maintaining close surveillance over the situation. All departments concerned have been instructed to remain vigilant. The state government has reiterated that no compromise will be made with Uttarakhand’s peace, security and religious harmony and that those found responsible for creating fear and attempting to disrupt public order will not be spared under any circumstances.
