10 travellers from Rajasthan held in Srinagar after brawl with locals in overtaking dispute

SRINAGAR (Pauri), 27 Jun: A minor dispute over overtaking escalated into a violent clash late Friday night in the Pauri Chungi area of Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district. The confrontation between the local youths and some travellers from Rajasthan quickly turned into a physical fight, leaving three local youths injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the argument began with heated words over overtaking a vehicle and intensified as the groups reached Sriyantra Tapu, where the situation turned violent.
It is alleged that the travellers from Rajasthan, who were in a car, summoned their associates to the spot and attacked the local youths with sticks and stones. During the assault, one youth was reportedly bitten on the hand, causing further injury. The sudden escalation created panic in the area as the clash grew more aggressive.
On receiving the information, the police arrived promptly and brought the situation under control. Ten travellers from Rajasthan were taken into custody. Following the incident, local residents gathered at the police station and raised slogans demanding strict action against the travellers. The injured youths were medically examined and the police began interrogatimg both sides to ascertain the facts.
Senior Sub-Inspector Pankaj Tiwari stated that the investigation is being conducted on the basis of a complaint filed by one of the local youths, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law. The incident left the area tense, though police presence has ensured that the situation remains under control.
