Ekeshwar, 22 Jul:  Cabinet Minister and Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj said today that the Lakhpati Didi initiative is aimed not only at increasing women’s incomes but also at making them self-reliant, confident, and capable of taking on leadership roles in society. He said millions of women associated with self-help groups across the country are strengthening their families and local economies through their hard work and skills.

Addressing the Lakhpati Didi Conference organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha at the Ekeshwar (Pankhet) Block Headquarters on Wednesday, Maharaj said the event represented an important step towards women’s economic empowerment and the vision of a self-reliant India. During the programme, 48 women from various development blocks in the Chaubattakhal Assembly constituency who had become Lakhpati Didis were felicitated. Another 48 senior women engaged in social service, including Teelu Rauteli Award recipient Nutan Tanu Pant, were also honoured.

Congratulating the BJP Mahila Morcha for organising the event, Maharaj said the Narendra Modi-led government has launched several landmark initiatives for women’s empowerment, including the Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Mudra Yojana, support for self-help groups, the Namo Drone Didi scheme, and the Lakhpati Didi campaign, all of which have brought positive changes to the lives of millions of women.

He said the women of Uttarakhand have always been hardworking, resilient, and courageous, successfully managing agriculture, livestock, entrepreneurship, and family responsibilities. He stressed the need to further empower them by providing access to modern technology, skill development, marketing opportunities, and financial assistance. The government’s objective, he said, is to encourage more women to join self-help groups, promote local products, adopt self-employment, and take their products to national and international markets through the Vocal for Local initiative.
